Weekly Sports Update 10/16-10/21

Football (Kellie Foy)

The varsity football team won its last game of the season against Rock Island, winning 37-33. The team’s overall record is 1-8.

Girls Volleyball (Kellie Foy)

The girls’ varsity volleyball team beat Glenbard North on Tuesday, but fell short to St Charles East on Thursday in three sets. The team finished the regular season as conference champions and with a record of 28-7. Varsity begins the IHSA Regionals tournament on Tuesday at 6:30pm and at home.

Girls’ XC (Myra Bajwa)

Last Saturday, the team ran at the IHSA Regional meet in Aurora. They placed fourth overall, tying with Neuqua and beating Waubonsie and both Aurora schools. Terri Scarlet, Keely Weber, and Jenna Boyle lead the pack. This Saturday, the girls will run at IHSA Sectionals held at Waubonsie.

Boys’ XC (Myra Bajwa)

The boys’ team also competed at the IHSA Regional meet and placed seventh overall. Ralph Papa and Rokas Gudinavicius had a great race and will advance to the IHSA Sectionals tournament this Saturday.

Girls’ Swim (Myra Bajwa)

The swim team held their senior night on Thursday after their last dual meet of the season. The varsity team also hosted the Mustang invite on Friday and Saturday and finished third. Next Saturday, they will compete at the DuPage Valley Conference Championship at Naperville Central.

Boys’ Soccer (Tyler Burleyson)

The team started their playoff run on a high note with a victory against East Aurora last Tuesday. On Friday, they went back to East Aurora’s new field for the regional championship against Waubonsie Valley. Despite falling behind 0-2 at the end of the first half, the Mustangs rallied to a 3-2 victory. Their next match is tomorrow against defending IHSA State champions Naperville North.

Girls’ Tennis (Tyler Burleyson)

The tennis squad sent two girls to IHSA State this past weekend, freshman Meera Baid and freshman Natalia Kochkodan. Both girls competed in singles. Baid went 4-2 and Kochkodan went 2-2 in their matches over the three day tournament.
