Weekly Sports Update: 2/5 – 2/9

Girls’ Basketball (Kellie Foy)

The varsity team has the IHSA Regionals tournament on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday at Oswego East.

Boys’ Basketball (Kellie Foy)

The varsity team lost to Waubonsie Valley on Tuesday in a close game, losing 66-68. The game against Lake Park has been rescheduled to Feb. 17 due to the snow. The basketball unit plays at home against Wheaton Warrenville South on Tuesday, at home against Glenbard North on Friday, and at Lake Park on Saturday.

Special Olympics (Kellie Foy)

The basketball team lost one of its games and won its other game this week.

Girls’ Gymnastics (Myra Bajwa)

The girls’ gymnastics team competed at the IHSA Sectionals meet on Monday. Congrats to Melissa Martin for advancing to the IHSA State meet on beam.

Bowling (Myra Bajwa)

Alicia Anton, Bhavya Jayashankar, and Samhita Tumallapalli competed at the IHSA Sectionals tournament on Saturday. Congrats to the team for an amazing season!

Hockey (Myra Bajwa)

On Saturday, JV beat OPRF, winning 2-1 and varsity fell to Glenbard, losing 5-8. On Sunday, varsity lost against OPRF, losing 5-7 and JV competed against Hinsdale Central.

Wrestling (Tyler Burleyson)

Three Mustangs qualified for the IHSA State tournament this weekend at Sectionals. Sophomore Josh Labarbera, junior Phillip Sims, and senior Mekhi White will compete in their respective weight classes for State titles this week in a three-day tournament from Thursday to Saturday.

Boys’ Swim and Dive (Tyler Burleyson)

The swim and dive Sectionals teams practiced last week in anticipation of the IHSA Sectionals tournament this weekend, hosted at home. Athletes need to qualify for the IHSA State meet in their Sectionals races.

Indoor Track (Tyler Burleyson)

The team competed at the Proviso West Valentine Relay meet last Saturday. The freshman/sophomore team took 3rd in the 4×200, and varsity took first in the same event. In the 4×400, varsity came back from fifth in the pack to finish third.
