Weekly Sports Update 5/7-5/13

Girls’ Badminton (Nate Burleyson)

Girls’ Badminton sent 3 players to state. Vyshnavi Nukasani for singles as well as Nitya Nagarajan and YunWei Liang for doubles. Nukasani lost early in the tournament, and Nitya and YunWei placed 6th overall.

Girls’ Soccer (Nate Burleyson)

On Monday, the girls’ soccer team fell to West Aurora 1-0. On Tuesday, the team fought through the fatigue to draw St. Francis 0-0. On Thursday, they finished their DVC schedule with a 1-0 win over Naperville Central.

Boys’ Track (Nate Burleyson)

The varsity track team placed 5th in the DVC conference last Friday. Notable individual placings include Rokas Gudinavicius placing 3rd in the 1600 and Pryce Giwa-Osagie finishing 2nd in the High Jump.

Baseball (Myra Bajwa)

Varsity beat Wheaton Warrenville South with a score of 8-0 on Monday. The team also beat Naperville North 5-4 on Tuesday and won 12-8 against Glenbard North on Wednesday. On Thursday, the team fell to Glenbard North with a score of 3-4 but came back on Friday to win the series with a score of 9-6. Next week, the boys play Aurora Christian, Yorkville, and Oswego.

Softball (Myra Bajwa)

Varsity won 12-2 against Wheaton North on Monday and 12-1 against Waubonsie on Wednesday. The team lost 1-4 against Lake Park on Thursday. Next week, the team plays Wheaton Warrenville South and Glenbard North.

Girls’ Track (Myra Bajwa)

The team competed at IHSA Sectionals on Thursday. Angelica Mendez places sixth in the discus and Kennedy Donald, Yanylia Doby, Jacquia Slaugher, and Sydnee Graves placed seventh in both the 4×100 meter relay and the 4×200 meter relay. Megan Fichte, Kate Jordan,Natalie Lafferty, and Keely Weber placed sixth in the 4×800 meter relay.

Ultimate Frisbee (Myra Bajwa)

Varsity played two games on Wednesday last week. They beat Downers Grove South 9-7 in the first game, and fell to Geneva 5-3 in the second game.

Girls’ Lacrosse (Nate Burleyson)

Last Friday, the Girls’ Lacrosse team took on Lake Zurich during their senior night. They won 16-10.

Boys’ Volleyball (Nate Burleyson)

Last Tuesday, the varsity team lost in 3 sets to Lake Park. On Thursday they took out Wheaton Warrenville South in 2 sets, 25-22, 25-18.

Boys’ Water Polo (Nate Burleyson)

The Boys’ Water Polo team fell 10-8 against Naperville North on Wednesday in their sectional game. They concluded their season.

Girls’ Water Polo (Nate Burleyson)

The Girls’ varsity team beat St. Charles East 14-5 on Wednesday to advance to the second round of sectionals. In the second round, they lost to Naperville North 13-6, concluding their season.

Rugby (Connor Smith)

The D2 High School Boys held their Senior Night this past Thursday, valiantly defeating Sycamore 64-10. The D3 High School Boys lost 7-43 to Blaze Academy this past Saturday. Playoffs begin this week for both teams.

Special Olympics (Connor Smith)

Special Olympics continued to hold bowling practices this week in preparation for their tournament this Thursday at Parkside Lanes in Aurora.

Varsity gained a hard-fought 6-5 win over Naperville Central this past Wednesday.
