Performances, crownings, contests, and Mustang spirit were a few of the many great things at Friday’s Homecoming pep assembly on the football field.

After the new senior MCs’ pick-up truck entrance, senior Taylor Moran performed the national anthem to set the tone for the assembly, ensuring everyone there that they were in for a spirited, exciting assembly.

Students dressed for their class theme and were ready to show their school spirit, and the juniors made it clear to everyone at Metea that when it rains, it pours. Their ponchos, rain boots, and homemade rain for the “rainy day” theme won them the honor of the class spirit stick. Then, the honor of Homecoming King and Queen was awarded to Stephanie Sorich and Lucas Rhamy, along with the the junior and underclassmen attendants.

Between performances by marching band, dance team, orchesis, and cheerleading there were games that pinned student versus student, and student versus staff.

“My favorite game was the food eating contest,”  BG Stampede and Pep Crew sponsor Ashley Hartke said. “People seemed to really get into it, and that always makes it more fun.”

This year our teacher vs. student competition was a chicken wing eating contest, and the students came out victorious. However, when it came to performances, the teachers blew the competition out of the water with a dance to Frozen’s “Let it Go” and “Watch Me” by Silento.

“My favorite part of the assembly was definitely the staff dancing,” senior Miranda Williams said. “Some of the teachers were even better dancers than me.”

Showing all of the students how to whip, nae nae, bop, and more, the energy that the staff put into the dance helped excite students for the homecoming dance.

“Having a pep assembly is a great way to get excited for a game,” senior MC Maddie ‘Mad Dog’ Morris said. “Everyone dressed in their class theme all day, then coming out and having a great time is the perfect way to get behind our team and ready for a win.”
