The music department kicked off a brand new season by hosting the first two choir concerts of the year in the auditorium Thursday night. After such an outstanding performance, it’s easy to see the program is ready to start a great year, with the same great student talent from years’ past.

“I think the first concert was a good way for us to work out any weaknesses and so now we can start focusing on the things that need the most work,” senior and Treble singer Annie Collado said. Though Collado speaks of so-called “weaknesses,” any present were hard to see. Between performances by The Cecilian Singers, The Madrigals, Treble and Chamber choirs, along with performances from both the Apollo and Musés a capella groups, everything sounded as if it were straight off of a soundtrack.

Choir Director Nathan Bramstedt did an excellent job leading the choirs to their first success, and the near-full crowd seemed to agree. Several highlights included senior Caroline Reeb hitting an awe-inspiring note at the end of the Muses rendition of “Wings” by Little Mix, as well as Apollo singing their own introduction, in contrast to the traditional greeting of the crowd. Chamber capped off the night with pieces “Ave Marie Stella” and “Zahucali Chladne Vjetry V Doline”, and then closed with the gospel “Go in Peace”, which made you want to dance in your seat a little bit.

It’s hard to imagine that it can get much better than it already is, but time and time again, the Metea music department has done it. Many are wowed by the winter Collage concert, and the spring is always a heart-felt goodbye to the seniors, so Thursday set the bar to an all-time high.

“It’s always really cool to see all the choirs just starting out, and then in our spring concert see how much everyone has grown,” Collado added.

Needless to say, the choirs of Metea Valley have once again proved that they have got the style, the class, and most importantly the talent to rep the Mustangs with pride.
