Weekly Sports Update: 1/04-1/09

Boys’ Basketball

The Mustangs finished 1-1 this week. On Friday, the team defeated Waubonsie 75-48 at home. After the win, the Mustangs fell to Lake Park 64-68, leaving them with a 6-8 overall record.

Wrestling

In a nail-biting meet against Eola rival Waubonsie Valley, the Mustangs pulled out an outstanding win, 38-26. The team was led by seniors Dylan Ervin, David Veitch, Uri Ariza, David Rojas, and Jake Toepfer. “Beating your rival school always feels good, but beating them this time was really special because it was my last time competing against them, and I’m happy I get to leave the rivalry on a good note,” Toepfer said. Major individual wins include Veitch with a 15-0 win against Sam Woodruff, Rojas and Ariza pins, and the most anticipated match, Ervin with a 8-6 win over Max Ihry. Support these seniors this Friday on their senior night against Wheaton Warrenville South in the main gym at 5:30 p.m.

Boys’ Swimming

Boys’ varsity swimming competed against WVHS this past Thursday, ousting the Warriors in a 106-74 victory. Alex Dillman won the 500 freestyle event, while the 200 medley team added to the Mustang win total. In the 100 backstroke, Robert Wang finished in a close second, while Alec Marquardt added a key 6 points to the overall point total by winning the diving competition.

Girls’ Bowling

This week, the Mustangs defeated Lisle (2448-1987) on Tuesday, but lost to Oswego East on Wednesday and Lake Park on Thursday. Highlights include Sophomore Samhita Tumallapalli’s high scoring game of 172, and Junior Izabelle Neuenkirchen’s high scoring series of 545. This week, The Mustangs look to face Neuqua Valley on Thursday, and compete in the Fred Green Invite on Saturday.

Returning from winter break, the team lost a close game last Tuesday against DuPage Valley contender Wheaton Warrenville South 39-41. Thursday, the Mustangs fell to Glenbard North 33-49.
