Weekly Sports Update 12/11-12/16

Girls’ Basketball (Kellie Foy)

The Freshman A team won to Naperville Central, winning 44-32. The Freshman B team also won to Naperville Central, winning 42-31. Varsity lost to Wheaton Warrenville South, losing 52-29. Varsity lost to Naperville Central, losing 32-54. The girls play at the Lady Spartan Holiday Classic at Wheaton St. Francis over break. The girls have another game on Jan. 4 at Glenbard North.

Boys’ Basketball (Kellie Foy)

The varsity team lost to Wheaton North in an intense game, losing 55-56. The sophomore team won to Wheaton North in overtime. The varsity team has the Jack Tosh Holiday Tournament for the first half of winter break. The basketball unit plays at home against rival Waubonsie Valley on Jan. 5 and at home against Lake Park on Jan. 6.

Special Olympics (Kellie Foy)

The gold Unified Basketball team lost to Oswego East this past week.

Dance (Kellie Foy)

The team has its DuPage Valley Conference competition in early January at Wheaton North.

Girls’ Gymnastics (Myra Bajwa)

On Wednesday, the girls’ gymnastics team competed against DeKalb/Sycamore, winning 141.3 – 127.83. Thalia Bowen led the team in the all-around with a 32.1 and Melissa Martin led in the vault with an 8.85.

Bowling (Myra Bajwa)

The bowling team won against Naperville North on Thursday. Samhita Tummallapalli on Varsity and Meredith Olef on JV helped lead the team to victory.

Hockey (Myra Bajwa)

JV and Varsity both played against Naperville North this weekend. The Warriors stay busy over break as Varsity plays the AWFM Renegades, St.Viator, and Wheaton West and JV plays Wheaton West on Dec. 30.

Cheer (Tyler Burleyson)

At this week’s competitions, the Junior Varsity Gold team placed 6th at Oswego East High School. Varsity traveled Friday night to Belvedere North’s Co-ed challenge and placed 4th out of 20 teams. The Junior Varsity Black team placed in 8th at their competition at Joliet West.

Wrestling (Tyler Burleyson)

This past week was a tough one for the team, who narrowly lost in a dual meet with rival Waubonsie Valley High School. The wrestling squad lost four more duals throughout the week. Next week, the team travels to Harlem High School for the annual Dvorak tournament, one of the most competitive in the country.

Swim and Dive (Tyler Burleyson)

The underclassmen swimmers had an opportunity to show their skills at the Fresh-Soph tournament hosted here last Friday. The team took 4th out of nine teams at the tournament. The team is about to begin their winter break training in anticipation of the rapidly approaching postseason.
