Star vs. the Forces of Evil
Star vs. the Forces of Evil (2015-2019)
Beginning as the very popular show Gravity Falls was ending, Star vs. the Forces of Evil had big shoes to fill. The show follows Star Butterfly and Marco Diaz after Star moves to Earth where she uses her intergalactic powers to fight villains and tackle high school. The show has a simple plot that at face value does not do the show justice. Star vs. the Forces of Evil begins just as any other teenage tv show, two best friends struggle through their highschool lives, but with a twist. Star Butterfly is the heir to the throne of another planet known as Mewni. She runs away from her life as a soon to be queen and ends up living with Marco Diaz and his family. The two go on numerous adventures, making new friends and fighting evil along the way. The plot takes a turn for the worse as a bigger threat to Star’s Universe is introduced in later seasons and she has to risk it all to protect the one’s she loves. The story is lighthearted yet serious when it needs to be and the color scheme makes for a beautifully drawn and creative universe of mischief and magic. There is noticeable inspiration taken from older cartoons and TV shows as well, such as Sailor Moon, falling within that genre of powerful female leads for younger boys and girls to look up to. While the show is not realistic in its use of magic and space travel, it tackles problems such as self love and insecurities.
Star vs. the Forces of Evil just ended this May of 2019 with its series finale on Disney Channel. It is a heartwarming story full of love and fun and is definitely a great cartoon to fill the shoes of Gravity Falls. With only 77 fifteen minute, give or take, episodes, Star vs. the Forces of Evil is a cartoon worth bingeing.
