Supposed To Be by Jack Johnson
Jack Johnson’s music, I find, is very relaxing. Maybe it is because I associate it with its appearances in a movie I watched all the time as a kid, maybe it is because it is actually relaxing, I do not know, but this one I find in particular to be calming, transporting me to a subconscious, almost liminal, sense of nostalgia for a day I can not quite put my finger on. I am pretty sure this song is about wondering what is out there– is there an afterlife? Is there a purpose to live? Where is it, and should we worry about it? There is something so wonderfully universal and childlike about the feeling that something, anything, is out on the horizon, and this song captures that feeling of childlike nostalgia and ponderance perfectly.
