I Hear a Symphony by Cody Fry
“I Hear a Symphony” is inspired by George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue.” It became a popular song on TikTok recently, but I have had this song in my Liked Songs playlist since 2019. I do not know why it is suddenly resurging, but I am glad it is, as it is now getting the attention it deserves.
Cody Fry has a few videos about the score of the piece and how he integrated a live orchestra into his work. I love the swell into the melody from the quiet beginning. It starts with just vocals and a piano line, but it slowly adds strings and brass, and Fry switches to a heartier singing tone and everything begins to come together. The song also concludes in such a satisfying way. It truly is an amazing composition.
