The Metea Valley boys’ bowling team lost 2-1 to the Oswego East Wolves in their match of the season.
On Dec. 5, the Mustangs struggled early, dropping the first two games (825-1125, 869-1044). However, they found their rhythm in the third game (844-765), securing a win that showcased their determination and growth.
“Last night was great because we took the third game from them, both on JV and varsity,” said head coach Kathy Wonsowski. “Being a new team brings on a lot of different aspects because of the fact that some kids have never bowled before, and we are trying to get everybody [on the same level] and compete.”
The team’s first match of the season against Naperville North highlighted their potential. The Mustangs performed consistently across their past games, setting a positive tone for the season.
Coach Wonsowski, in her first year leading the team, emphasized the unique challenges and opportunities of working with a group that includes both experienced bowlers and those new to the sport.
“Some kids could actually do well [enough to advance] to regionals and even beyond,” Wonsowski said.
The Mustangs’ next match is against the Naperville Central Redhawks on Dec. 12 at 4 p.m.
