How long have you been apart of Track & Field?
I’ve been throwing since I was six years old so that would be about 11 years, my parents have this rule that you have to be in a sport for every season of the year, so I chose track for the summer. I started out running, but I hated it. My coach told me to try shotput and discus, and I was a quick learner so I stuck with it.
What do you enjoy most about the sport?
The thing I enjoy most about the sport is the mental aspect of it all, it’s always amazing how much you can limit yourself or push yourself to your limits just by simply preparing yourself mentally for competition. It’s all a mental game, how hard are you willing to push yourself in the weight room and in the ring, and of course I love being a role model for the young kids.
What is your biggest motivation?
My biggest motivation is the people who told me or tell me that I can’t achieve something. Also, it’s the things that would drive people to not follow their passion, those are the things that push me to go as far as I can with what I love to do.
Do you enjoy being apart of a team?
I love being a part of a team, it teaches me that’s it’s not always about what I can achieve, but more so about how I can help touch the lives of other people through a common interest. If you give someone a fish they will eat for a day, yet if you teach them how to fish they will eat forever.
Do you plan on furthering your athletic career?
Yes, I plan on furthering my career in track and field, I plan to attend a four year Division I university, and participating in collegiate track and field. I plan on training for the 2020 Olympics and going as far as I can with Track and Field.
