Ashley Abruscato, teacher

Q: What is your motivation to be the woman you are today?

A: I feel like my parents like had very high standards for me So, whether it was through academics or sports or activities like they always set very high expectations for me. And I think that that was like that was really helpful because I feel like as I’ve developed now and grown up and become like a wife and a mother. I still hold myself to high standards and I feel like I’m also doing the same for my kids.

Q: How do you hope to inspire the women around you?

A: I feel like I do that a couple different ways number one I feel like I’m a pretty positive person. I try to always come into work with a smile on my face, and then I try to make sure I always are welcoming my students as they’re coming into the classroom, or as they’re coming into PE I feel like I’m always trying to like say hi Happy Tuesday Good morning and like literally just like setting a stage in a presence. But I also try to make sure that people know that I care about them because I feel like one thing we need to make sure we do is just like continue to spread kindness, and we can do that by like actually taking a break during the day and just like talking to people and not just rushing through.

Q: As a strong women what do you value most?

A: I value the ability to make choices for myself. I value the fact that I am able to have a job where I have the ability to influence other young women. And I think I’m doing that in a positive way. I feel like I, I, I love that I’m in a role where I’m able to help young men and young women really try to find themselves in these adolescent years.

Q: You are obviously a phenomenal women yourself and considering it’s women history month what have you done to empower women around you?

A: I feel like I do a good job of again trying to spread kindness and positivity and I feel like I have the ability to like help put people in a good mood as well. I feel like, you know, again, like I mentioned earlier, like, we don’t just have to run through the day it’s not it doesn’t all have to be hustle and bustle like everyone needs a staff and take a deep breath and just like realize that everyone here has value but like we need to stop and hear it. So I think one of the things I love to do is like just making sure people know that they have a voice. And I think a lot of my students also come to me in times of need. And I feel like when they know that someone cares, it actually helps empower them.

Q: What do you have to say to others women out there?

A: I feel like, you know, something that like motivation, motivational speakers say a lot is like remember we have just this one life, and we have to make it as awesome as we can. So really just living each day and realizing that like there’s a reason that you’re here. And you’re capable of so many great things. You just might not know it yet.
