Metea’s dance team held its second annual kickathon this week. The team partnered up with Neuqua’s and Waubonsie’s dance teams to help the Ronald McDonald House with a fundraiser for those in need.
“[Doing this] means a lot, especially because we were able to raise $2,000 more than last year. Knowing all the trouble in the world, it’s really nice to see all [the valleys] coming together to help our community,” junior Erin Williams said.
The three teams ended up participating in a unified kickline and raised a total of $5,143 at the end of the event. All the money raised went straight back to the Ronald McDonald House after the event.
“Last year was our first year ever doing this, and we want to actually make this an annual thing every year. Our coach was the one who thought of the whole thing and thought the other valleys should be a part of the experience as well,” junior Chiffon Claiborne said.
The three valleys are looking to continue this event next year. The teams plan on making the kickathon an annual event as well as working with different charities and organizations every time.
“We already have plans to start picking a charity or organization for next year. [The kickathon is] a really important aspect of our programs now,” Williams added.
The dance team will be performing at the Homecoming pep assembly and Homecoming football game on September 29. The girls will also perform at the next home game on September 22 as well.
