The varsity girls’ golf team recently competed in their DuPage Valley Conference Championship last Tuesday at Phillips Park. The team placed seventh overall, with Sara Lagvankar, Grace Buchta, and Maddie Niehardt leading the team.

“A couple of the girls did really well,” head coach Rob Jordan said .

Maddie Niehardt scored a 91 and contributed to the team’s overall result and Grace Buchta shot an all-time low. Also, Sara Lagvankar and Alyssa Pellegrini have been standout golfers and performed well throughout the overall season.

“I’m really impressed with our improvement as a team,” Lagvankar said.

The team is advancing to the IHSA Regional tournament Wednesday, and hope to continue to play well and improve their overall score. Depending on the results of the regional conference, some individual golfers could be advancing further to the IHSA Sectionals tournament.

Regionals take place on their home course and so to prepare, the girls will get the chance to work on some of the more difficult holes on the course so that they are very familiar with it on Wednesday.

“Since golf is mostly an individual sport, we all have different things to work on. I think getting together and practicing would benefit everyone,” sophomore JV golfer Heidi Gabriel said.
