Mustangs in the City: Special Olympics night at DePaul University
The Special Olympics Unified Basketball and Unified Dance teams represented Metea at DePaul University’s Special Olympics Night on Friday. Both teams participated in activities and performances during a DePaul women’s basketball game.
This is the first time that Metea has been invited to this event, and it was a big hit in the eyes of athletes and audience members alike. “I felt like I was in the United Center, and it just [felt] good” junior and basketball player Emiliano Perez said.
During halftime, Unified Basketball scrimmaged against the Unified Basketball team from Andrew High School. The game ran for seven minutes, and the Mustangs came out on top with a final score of 4-2.
Throughout the game, Unified Dance participated in sideline and time-out cheers alongside DePaul’s Dance and Cheer teams. In addition, they performed their own routine following the 3rd Quarter.
This event marked an end to the season for both Unified Basketball and Unified Dance. Swimming season is up next for Special Olympics. Practices have already begun for the Swim team, and their annual swim meet will take place at Metea on March 7.
