Orchesis rehearses for their upcoming show.

Orchesis is preparing for its annual showcase all throughout this week with tech week. The extra hours spent at school consist of continuous rehearsals involving long hours adjusting to different lighting and music.

The show consists of different genres such as jazz, contemporary, and hip hop. The girls have been working hard to prepare for their performances, but spending time with their team is what tech week is all about.

“Everyone thinks it’s boring to stay at school for an extra seven hours every day, but I think it is such fun because we all get so much closer as a team and by the time we are seniors we spent countless hours together,” senior Grace Eber said.

It takes a lot of time and effort for the dancers to perfect their dances. The choreography is created by the students who choose to be a choreographer for the dance. The dances start out with a little bit of choreography, and they slowly start to become an actual performance with the help of their teammates suggestions. In some cases, the dances are sentimental and have a personal meaning behind them.

“Every show is different, we think our ultimate goal is to make our show diverse such as in different styles of dance and music. We want to make sure we are giving our audience something different,” Artistic Director of Orchesis Angela Williams said.

The show takes place Feb. 7 and 8 at 7:30 pm and tickets will be sold during all lunch periods and at the door.

“Seeing all the dances come together, adding the lights and costumes is important but also my favorite part of tech week,” junior Sophie Masini said.
