The different perspectives, reactions, and lifestyle changes in response to the pandemic

Schools switched to online as the entire United States issued a stay at home order on March 13. Quarantine gave students increased free time but restrained how it could be used due to the reduced access to stores, fear of contact with others, and panicked state of the community. Many students closely followed government guidelines regarding the virus, while others felt comfortable disregarding precautions such as social distancing.

Alyssia Ho, junior

Are you personally strict regarding quarantine and COVID-19 precautions such as social distancing, masks, limited group sizes, etc.?

“Yes, with the exception of visiting some family every Sunday. I wear a mask whenever I go out and I only ever go out to shop with my mom,” Ho said.

How did you spend your time in quarantine?

“Mostly I’ve been trying to keep my leg healthy with stretches and light exercises to maintain that flexibility and hopefully avoid the dislocations from being as painful. I also draw a lot,” Ho said.

What are some positives that have come out of the pandemic for you personally?

“I guess it’s helped me return to drawing more often so that’s a plus,” Ho said.

What has been the most drastic change in your life/what required the most adaptation?

“The most adaptation required was learning to communicate more with friends from school through messages as I no longer see them but seeing as I never really left the house there has been little change,” Ho said.

How do you handle communication with your friends and relatives?

“Video calls and texts are my friends with it comes to communication, now more than ever,” Ho said.
