Ursula, the article you wrote (like the very last one of Stampede). THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. Your perspective was so eye-opening for me. We need so many more autistic people to speak up on the board and in the school. How Academy awards continue false promises and snubs which indirectly internalize our perceptions of those with disabilities is so real. If you haven’t dealt with a mental illness, don’t be filmed having one. If you haven’t faced an addiction, don’t be filmed like you have had one. If you haven’t dealt with racism, don’t be filmed suffering it. You hit it on the nail. If you DON’T have experience or deal with a disability of some sort, then DON’T be filmed for it. Pop culture should stay out of social and political issues. They expand it TOO MUCH or they minimize it. It is rarely in between.
