Cardigan - Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift encapsulates true nostalgia in her album Folklore. With a gentle piano melody and haunting vocals, Taylor captures the idea of a familiar warmth worn with time: her cardigan. The song feels familiar and comfortable, capturing Fall’s atmosphere perfectly.

“I think you have to correlate a cardigan by Taylor Swift with fall because you switch over your wardrobe from the summer to the fall,’’ English teacher Megan Hall said. ‘’I think when we talk about cardigans and wearing cardigans, we think about warmth and comfort which is the epitome of fall.’’

When I Was Your Man- Bruno Mars

Bruno Mars can be recognized for how emotional his songs are. Whether it be joy or melancholy, Bruno Mars is capable of making anyone emotionally resonate with his songs. A song that really encapsulates emotion is ‘When I Was Your Man’ off his album Unorthodox Jukebox. The song portrays feelings of remorse and regret while still keeping the sound of a love song. This allows for a nostalgic feeling that most feel while listening to music.

“Slow songs can always be correlated to fall due to their peaceful and calming sounds,“ sophomore Athvika Vivek said. “I feel I like more of the slow, that's just the autumn vibe.”

Homesick - Wave to Earth

Wave to Earth is known for their dreamy, lo-fi-sounding songs that explore themes of love, nature, and nostalgia. Their mellow instrumentals, as seen in the song “Homesick”, help their listeners feel a sense of emotional ease. A song like this is perfect for the fall as it aligns well with warm, cozy, and melancholic feelings that are often reflected in the seasonal shift. Fade Into You - Mazzy Star

After experiencing a resurgence in popularity on TikTok, “Fade Into You” by Mazzy Star found a new audience that paired this song with romance, longing, and reflective moments. Many Tiktoks under this audio talk about the beginning of fall and the shift in aesthetics they experience.

One TikTok sums it perfectly: “me whipping out this song as soon as the leaves hit the floor.’’

It's honestly fascinating how music can find new life in different contexts. It's fascinating that we can connect a season with the kind of sentiment and nostalgia that is reflected in these songs. The crisp air, the aesthetics, and the comfort of fall as a whole are universally celebrated.

When she isn’t staying after school, she is probably at home, locked in, playing roblox, or out shopping for clothes she doesn’t have room for.
