Metea Valley’s activity fair showcases around 60 of the 100 clubs. This advertisement gains new members and promotes their goals. While the fair aims to recruit new members, the effectiveness in the long term is to be reflected. The fair occurred on September 12 and invoked club and student participation.
The activity fair has increased the publicity for almost all clubs. However, lots of work goes into planning and making the posters for each club.
“I think the activity fair is especially good at recruiting underclassmen; we had a great turn-out of freshman and sophomores at our first meeting,” Psychology club sponsor Micheal O’Neill said.
Clubs also take on alternative methods to build on the publicity they received from the fair. Some ways they advertise outside of the activity fair are by utilizing the TVs posted around the school, and others put posters on the bulletin boards. However, many clubs rely on word of mouth to spread information.
“I tell the members of the club to bring a friend to the next meeting in hopes of increasing membership long term,” O’Neill said.
The impact of the fair remains uncertain, but it ultimately brings everyone together and exposes students to all Metea has to offer. Without the fair membership trends in all clubs would be different, and underclassmen may not be exposed to as many clubs at the beginning of the year.
“That’s what I think the activity fair is most helpful with, is the incoming freshman who might not have the connections in the school to find us by word of mouth,” English teacher Sara Wojtasik said.
