Club executive boards are a vital part of what keeps the clubs organized and running smoothly. At the beginning of spring, the majority of Metea clubs open up board applications for the current members to apply for the new school year.
Many applications have already opened up for members interested in applying. In most clubs, current board members discuss ideas and start reapplying for the upcoming year before the senior board members officially have to step down.
Clubs differ in how they handle their board selection processes. The club advisors seek certain types of qualities within candidates that fit the club’s needs and goals for the upcoming year.
Ashley Hartke, a sponsor for Aspiring Health Professionals (AHP), explains the club’s yearly board selection process, emphasizing how it differs between returning members and members who are applying for the first time.
“If they are not a senior, they do have to reapply if they want to keep their board position,” Hartke said. “Current board members have to tell us ideas they have for the future and why they should continue to be on the board.”
In some cases, clubs may need to follow rigorous guidelines during this time of year. Advisors have to work together to find the right board member with the proper qualifications and qualities that best fit the need for the position in their club.
“A national organization or an honor society may have guidelines for what positions you can have or what qualifications are for those positions,” Activities Director Heather Weisenburger said.
AHP is one of the clubs that systematically conducts its board selection processes every year, reviewing each candidate’s past work to better understand what it will be like for them to be a board member in the future.
“Current board members have to tell us ideas they have for the future, why they should continue to be on the board,” Hartke said. “They need to review all the work that they’ve done as well as present ideas of where they want to be moving the club towards.”
