When did you start making YouTube videos?
I posted my first cover video in eighth grade, which was the first time I had ever sang in front of anyone. It was a big step – posting that online. I sang “Your Song” by Ellie Goulding, but I deleted it. After that, I didn’t post anything for awhile, and then I met Sushi after my freshman year. We became friends over our obsession with YouTube and we started going to all these YouTuber conventions and decided we were going to make our own video because we both love singing.
Why do you like making YouTube videos?
I love making YouTube videos because it’s an awesome form of expression. You get to speak freely about ideas and communicate your personality to the world. It’s a form of artistry for me; I love editing, I love cinematography.
What is your favorite YouTube video you have ever made?
My favorite is “Speaking out about Gender Expectations”. I liked that one because it specifically spurred a conversation in our community and school. While it was relevant to the outside community, it was very relevant to the conversation in our school at the time and because of that, I got so much more feedback than the other videos we post.
What was your experience like at VidCon this summer?
It was crazy! It’s in Anaheim, CA., there is three tracks you can go on: community, creator, and industry. We took the creator pass, which is for new, up and coming YouTubers to learn how to grow your channel and cater content to subscribers. It was a lot of panels, which were very informative and fun. We met a lot of cool people that are involved on the internet, and collaborated with people from Arizona and California on our channel which we would have never been able to do without it. VidCon was cool because it just brought our whole community of online video together.
