There were two major wins at the Second Annual Metea Valley High School Powderpuff Game Wednesday: first and foremost, over $2200 was raised at the game went to the Fab-U-Wish foundation; secondly, the Rack Valley junior team stunned everyone with a win in double-overtime against the defending champion senior team, Beauty and the Blitz.
As all four teams took the field over the course of the night, one victory was already in progress as money was rolling in for the Fab-U-Wish foundation. As part of the Pink Agenda, the Fab-U-Wish foundation aims to raise money for women with breast cancer.
“Fab-U-Wish is different than other breast cancer charities,” Powderpuff co-founder Miranda Williams said. “Their goal is to make women with breast cancer feel strong and powerful, like every woman should feel. They strive to empower those women so that they can face whatever life may throw at them.”
The foundation serves to help women with breast cancer in a particularly unique way, which can’t be underestimated. It serves to make women with breast cancer feel strong enough to handle what life has given them, and to make them feel beautiful in the process.
For the fans that came out in support of the both the Pink Agenda, and the teams, they certainly got the show they came for. With the spirit of the Fab-U-Wish foundations, all teams played with a sense of strength and intensity that couldn’t have been missed.
With a surprising amount of intensity, stellar defenses shined, running backs rushed for multiple 20+ yard gains, and we had our very first win that was decided in not just overtime, but double overtime.
Rack Valley managed to hold Beauty and the Blitz’s powerful offense to less yards than expected, and held on long enough to force an overtime that certainly did not appear to be theirs to win. But they did just that. They won.
“It means a lot. We were the underdogs, and they doubted us. But we didn’t take a loss,” junior Rack Valley quarterback Courtney Morgan said.
Rack Valley’s ability to establish the run game, and utilize the passing game when they needed to, gave them an unexpected edge in overtime, eventually giving them an incredible win.
