The iPhone 7 is here, and with noticeable changes

On Sept. 7, Apple revealed their newest product, the iPhone 7. The new phone improves on nearly everything the iPhone 6s had, and has two new colors to choose from. Colors “jet black” and “matte black” complement the very sleek new design of the phone’s body. From a distance, the iPhone 7 looks strikingly similar to 6s, but up close the seamless curved edges and lack of a headphone jack become apparent. A seamless transition between parts aids the phone in being water resistant. An important thing to note, water resistant and waterproof are not the same thing. The iPhone 7 can perform just fine in rain or after accidentally dropping it in the sink, but taking it with you for a swim is still not a good idea. Apple’s new home button for the iPhone 7 is completely new, this time around being a solid state (non-moving) button. The static button both limits potential entry of water, and makes the button resistant to any possible wear.

As mentioned before, the headphone jack is intentionally left out of the iPhone 7. People will now have to use a new set of AirPods (included with the phone) that plug into the charging port. A 3.5mm headphone adapter is also included in the phone’s box for those that want to use their own headphones. There are now two speakers present on the exterior; one on both the top and bottom. Having two external speakers allows the phone to produce higher quality sound.

The iPhone 7 has a 25 percent longer battery life compared to the iPhone 6, as well as a 25 percent brighter screen display. The new microchip inside the phone, labeled the A10 Fusion Chip, is faster and more energy efficient, allowing for a longer battery life. Available storage capacities are 32, 128, and 256 GB, and it’s worth noting that new jet black color is only available in 256 GB storage. The regular iPhone 7 has a 4.7-inch display (same as iPhone 6) with a 1334×750 resolution. The iPhone 7 Plus has a 5.5-inch display with a 1920×1080 resolution.

Both the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus have a twelve megapixel camera that comes with optical image stabilization to reduce motion blur caused by moving or shaking. Something new to Apple devices, the iPhone 7 Plus has two rear facing cameras that act as one to contribute to better image quality while zooming and the ability to shoot 4k videos. As expected, all these new improvements come at a cost. The iPhone 7 with a 32 GB storage and without any data plan will cost $649, and the iPhone 7 Plus will be an extra $100 on top of that.
