Students focused their attention on four lucky teachers on Jan. 31 as students taped them to the lunchroom wall for the third annual Duct-Tape-A-Teacher event. The Future Educators Association created this in order to collect donations for charities, this year being the local Hesed House. Hesed House is the second largest shelter in the state of Illinois, which serve the homeless. FEA Sponsor, and English teacher, Mrs. Chaloka found this years charity to be especially significant. “Because this year is so cold, we have to take advantage of it”, said Mrs. Chaloka. Students paid twenty five cents per foot of duct tape, which they stuck to the chosen teacher during their lunch period.
The FEA voted and decided to put Mr. Kurek, Mr. Anerino, Mr. Jordan and Mr. Page to the test. “I’m a little scared, I have sensitive skin, so hopefully no one puts tape on my face,” said Social Studies teacher Mr. Kurek.
Excitement hummed throughout the lunchroom as students purchased tape and wondered whether or not their efforts to secure the teacher to the wall, once the support under their feet was removed, would prove successful, unfortunately none did. “I was disappointed that we didn’t stick to the wall, but it was awesome to see a lot of students involved with FEA to help out the community,” said Mr. Kurek.
