Weekly Sports Update 4/16-4/22
Girls’ Badminton (Tyler Burleyson)
The girls celebrated senior night last week in a match against Glenbard North.
Boys’ Tennis (Tyler Burleyson)
The team had their first conference win last week against Wheaton North 6-1. They followed up that performance with a 6-1 victory over Waubonsie as well.
Girls’ Soccer (Tyler Burleyson)
In official DVC play, the team defeated Waubonsie Valley 2-1. Continuing their run in the PepsiCo showdown tournament, the girls dominated 4-0 against Fremd and 2-0 against Hinsdale Central.
Boys’ Track (Tyler Burleyson)
At the Red Granger Invite, the 4×8 relay took first with a 7:58.16. Senior Charlie Schafer finished first in the 800 individually. The next day several runners competed in the Distance Night event in Palatine. Schafer ran his 800 at a 1:57.94, and fellow Senior athlete Rokas Gudinavicius came in at 4:21.50 in the 1600.
Baseball (Myra Bajwa)
Varsity lost 1-4 against Neuqua on Tuesday and dropped 1-5 against Wheaton North on Thursday. On Friday, varsity won 8-5 against Wheaton North and lost 2-3 to Wheaton North on Saturday. Next week, the team plays Naperville North, Waubonsie, and Lake Park.
Softball (Myra Bajwa)
Softball beat Lake Park 4-3 on Friday and won 9-7 against Glenbard East on Saturday. Next week, the girls play Wheaton Warrenville South on Monday, Wheaton North on Tuesday, and Glenbard North on Wednesday.
Girls’ Track (Myra Bajwa)
On Friday, the girls travelled to Neuqua for the Neuqua Valley Invite. India Williams came in seventh in the 400 meter run with a SR of 1:05.53 and Laurel Roney placed fourth in the 800 meter run with a PR of 2:25.06. Terri Scarlett also placed sixth in the 600 meter run with a time of 5:29.89. Jenna Boyle and Emily Kohlberg came in fourth and fifth in the 3200 meter run.
Ultimate Frisbee (Myra Bajwa)
This weekend, the ultimate frisbee team competed at the nation’s biggest youth tournament, Neuqua Knockout. They went 2-2 on Saturday with a loss to Madison West in the final game of pool play. On Sunday, the team went 2-1 with a win over Madison Memorial and placed 29th out of 40 teams.
Boys’ Volleyball (Nate Burleyson)
Volleyball defeated Naperville North in two sets last Tuesday. This week they travel to Naperville Central on Tuesday, and Willowbrook on Thursday.
Boys’ Water Polo (Nate Burleyson)
This past Saturday, the Varsity team went 2-1 with a win over Maine South and a loss to Neuqua.
Girls’ Water Polo (Myra Bajwa)
Varsity lost 7-15 against Naperville Central on Tuesday. JV beat Naperville Central 6-5. On Saturday, varsity won the Valley Varsity Tournament at Neuqua. The team beat Bradley 12-3, won 11-4 against Maine South and beat Neuqua 16-7.
Rugby (Connor Smith)
The D3 High School Boys were victorious this past Thursday, defeating the Plainfield Thundercats 49-0 in a friendly at home.
Special Olympics (Connor Smith)
Special Olympics continued to hold track and field practices in preparation for the “Spring Games” tournament this Sunday, April 29.
