Weekly Sports Update 9/24 – 9/29
Boys’ Cross Country (Leland Pan)
The Mustangs had the St. Charles North Invitational on Saturday at Leroy Oaks Forest Preserve. Senior Michael Varzino leads the Mustangs and finishes 27 overall. The boys have the Twilight run at Naperville North on Thursday and the West Aurora Invite on Saturday at the Stuarts Sports Complex.
Girls’ Cross Country (Madison McCalley)
On Saturday, the girls competed at the St. Charles North Invitational. Senior Carly Cast led the team placing in 26th in the 3 mile race. Next week, the girls have a meet on Wednesday at Naperville North and Saturday at the West Aurora Invite.
Football (Nate Burleyson)
The varsity team traveled down to Bradley-Bourbonnais High School on Friday night and came back from down 21-0 to win 28-21 off of two rushing touchdowns by junior CJ Wilcox. They improve to 1-5 on the season and they play Naperville North this Friday in the homecoming game.
Boys’ Golf (Leland Pan)
The Mustangs played the Dupage Valley Conference match last Tuesday and with a team score of 322, a second-place finish for the round. On Saturday, the boys finished third at the Lemont Shootout with Scott Madland leading the Mustangs with an 8th place overall finish. They move on to play Regionals on Wednesday.
Girls’ Golf (Nate Burleyson)
The varsity team played their conference match at Phillips Park last Tuesday. They finished 5th and seniors Alyssa Pelligrini and Madison Neihardt lead the way with a score of 91 each.
Hockey (Nate Burleyson)
The varsity Warriors’ hockey team beat Wheaton West on Friday in a shootout. They then played Lincoln Way and lost 4-3. The team plays Glenbard this Sunday.
Boys’ Soccer (Nate Burleyson)
The varsity team played Neuqua Valley on Tuesday. The game was tied 1-1 at halftime until inclement weather delayed the game. On Thursday, the team traveled to Lockport and dominated 7-3. Then, Saturday on senior day the team won 1-0 against Oswego East. This week they play Boylan Catholic, Hinsdale South, and Plainfield East in the Warrior Invite. Matches take place on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday. As well as the rescheduled match against Neuqua on Thursday.
Girls’ Swim and Dive (Madison McCalley)
On Tuesday, the girls had a meet against Lake Park. Junior Laurel Bludgen broke the pool record in the 500 free with a time of 5:16.71. On Friday, the divers competed at the DGS Varsity Invite at Downers Grove South. Divers Maddie Satinover and Emaline Kerwin placed eleventh and fourth at the meet.
On Saturday, the swimmers competed. The 200 medley relay started off strong with a first-place finish. Junior Kellie Willhite placed first in the 200 IM and junior Lucy Siwicki placed fourth in the 200 IM. Junior Laurel Bludgen placed first in the 50 free and junior Aimee Patterson placed 4th in the 50 free.
Senior Rylee Stone finished second in her 100 fly. Sophomore McKenna Stone and Laurel Bludgen place first and second in the 100 free and McKenna broke the meet/pool record. The 200 free relay finished first and broke the pool record.
Sophomore Kellie Willhite finished 1st in the 100 back. Junior Lanie Patterson and Lucy Siwicki finished second and third in the 100 breaststroke. The 400 relay finished first and broke the pool record. The swimmers walked out with a second place team finish with 451 points. Their next meet is at home on Tuesday and they compete against Naperville North.
Girls’ Tennis (Leland Pan)
On Tuesday the girls played a rescheduled away match against Lake Park. On Thursday, a home match was played against Waubonsie (conference match) and set a winning score of 5-2. After a powerful win, the girls played the Naperville North invite, including schools Wheaton Academy, Hinsdale Central, Naperville North, Naperville Central, Geneva High School, and Lyons Township. Feina Niu and Isabella Palm received first place for doubles and Meera Baid received first place in singles. The Mustangs play today against Wheaton North, West Aurora tomorrow, and Dupage Conference on Friday and Saturday at Naperville Central.
Girls’ Volleyball (Madison McCalley)
On Tuesday, varsity fell in 2 sets against Naperville North. On Thursday, varsity played their Dig Pink game against Neuqua. They dropped to 0-4 in the conference, falling in the match to Neuqua. Their next game is at home on Monday against Minooka. On Tuesday, the girls play at home against Waubonsie Valley.
