Weekly Sports Update 9/2-9/8

Boys’ Golf (Jose Collado)

The Mustangs finished 11th out of 24 teams after shooting a score of 329 in the 51st Annual Fenton Invite and White Pines Golf Course in Bensenville.

Girls’ Cross Country (Alex Bedore)

The girls cross country team competed in the Hinsdale Central invite last Saturday. The Mustangs came in ninth place as a team. Senior Sophia Sandy placed tenth overall. Their next meet is this Saturday at Peoria.

Boys’ Cross Country (Tyler Perry)

Metea boys’ cross country team came in fifth place out of seven schools in the Aurora City meet. Their overall score was 117. The boys will play their next match at Detweiller Park on Saturday at 9:00 am.

Girls’ Golf (Tyler Perry)

The girls’ golf team played Naperville North with a 191,  their best score of the season so far. They also played Neuqua Valley but  lost 193-174. The upcoming match is vs Plainfield East where they will be playing at Orchard Valley starting at 3:30 pm.

Boys’ Football (Alex Bedore)

The Mustangs played their first road game of the season against Lake Park last Friday. The Mustangs scored 12 points, but it wasn’t enough as the Mustangs still lost to the Lancers. Their next game is this Friday at Belleville East.

Boys’ Soccer (Jose Collado)

Varsity started off the week with a 2-3 penalty shootout loss against Maine South on Monday. They were able to pull off a 1-0 win on Wednesday against St. Charles East behind a shutout by Gandhi Cruz, and followed that up with a massive 6-1 against Plainfield Central on Thursday, putting them in the final of the invite. The boys secured the win at the Invite after a double-overtime 2-1 win at St. Charles North.

Girls’ Swim and Dive (Elena Buscher)

The girls’ varsity swim and dive team welcomed Benet Academy to their pool for the first meet of the season. The Mustangs won the meet 116-63. Junior Mckenna Stone broke the pool and school record in the 100 fly with a time of 54.5 seconds. Their next meet is this Friday and Saturday at the Neuqua Valley Invite.

Girls’ Tennis (Leland Pan)

The varsity team hosted Geneva High School last Tuesday. The girls then traveled to Naperville Central last Tuesday and lost 3-4. Mustangs continued on their week with the Lincoln-Way West Quad Their next match will be against St. Charles East tomorrow. 

Girls’ Volleyball (Elena Buscher)

The girls’ varsity volleyball team took on multiple teams at the Willowbrook Invite at Willowbrook High School. The team was 5-0 and winning the tournament for the fifth year in a row. Junior Keira Jannisch has received the Play of the Week by NCTV17 and senior Annika Altekruse was named Metea’s Athlete of the Month for the month of August. Their next game is Wednesday against Hinsdale South in the main gym.
