Sports Beats Week 8/31-9/6

Boys’ Cross Country (Max Berglind)

The boys’ cross country team traveled to Katherine Legge Park on Saturday to compete at the Hornet Red Devil Invitational. Seniors Ben Lamsma (16:30) and Hari Musunuri (17:45) led the way. They travel to Peoria as they will compete in the First to the Finish Invitational next Saturday. 

Girls’ Cross Country (Nick Vallejo)

The girls’ cross country team went over to Katherine Legge Park on Saturday to compete in the Hornet Red Devil Invitational. No one ended up placing in the meet. They will travel to Peoria First to Finish Invitational this Saturday.

Boys’ Golf (Max Berglind)

The boys’ golf team picked up four wins last week. One was at the first ever Mustang Invitational, the others coming against conference opponents Neuqua Valley, Naperville Central, and Naperville North. The team will head to Marmion to compete in the Cadets Invitational on Wednesday, host a non conference matchup against Wheaton North on Thursday, and head to Prospect High School on Saturday. 

Girls’ Golf (Grace Davidson)

The girls won against Central 173-191 last Tuesday the 31. The team faced Naperville North at Metea yesterday. Their next match is today against Neuqua.  

Boys’ Football (Nick Vallejo)

The boys’ football team played home on Friday. They played against the lockport football team. Lockport started off the game very fast and it went like that for most of the game. Lockports consistency led the The Metea team to not score, resulting in a 48-0 loss for Metea. Now they will get ready to face Belleville East this Friday.

Boys’ Soccer (Grace Davidson)

The boys beat St. Charles North in the St. Charles Tournament 4-2 last Monday the 30. Next in the tournament the Mustang’s faced Downers North. They won 2-0 with goals scored by junior Dan Wilkinson and senior Colin Bastianoni. In the championship game the team faced St. Charles East. It was a tough loss for the Mustang’s with a final score of 3-0. On Tuesday the boys went up against DeKalb in their first (DVC) match of the season. Today the team is facing Hinsdale Central. The Mustang’s will then go into their PepsiCo Challenge match this Saturday and Sunday.

Girls’ Swim and Dive (Grace Davidson)

The Mustang’s faced off against Benet at Metea on Tuesday the 31. The Mustang’s dominated the Redwing’s, sophomore Allison Leslie anchoring the first race win in the 200 medley relay. Junior Amanda Schmitt scored Metea’s second win in the 100 yard butterfly with 58 seconds. Schmitt also went on to win the 200 yard freestyle later on in the meet. The last race was the 50 yard freestyle which was neck and neck between the schools. Metea’s junior Halle Reifsnyder pulled out the win with a 26 second score. The final score was a Mustang win 104-66 over Benet. The girls go into their next meet against DeKalb this Thursday. The team will also be attending the Waubonsie Valley Relays on Saturday.

Girls’ Tennis (Grace Cronin) 

The girls won against Geneva with a score of 5-2 last Wednesday. The team faced DeKalb winning 6-0 last Tuesday. They continued their week with a tournament against Lincoln-Way West losing to Benet, but winning against Plainfield East and Lincoln-Way West. The Mustangs have another match against Wheaton North today.

Girls’ Volleyball (Grace Cronin) 

The Mustangs beat Oswego East with a strong win of 25-15 the first match, and 25-10 last Tuesday. They continued their streak at the Willowbrook Invite defeating Addison Trail, Glenbard North, Trinity, and West Chicago in the semifinals. However, they had a tough loss against Willowbrook in the finals during the third match 25-22. They will continue their season today with a game against Hinsdale South.
