Sports Beats Week 9/7-9/13

Boys’ Cross Country (Max Berglind)
The boys’ cross country team traveled to Peoria last weekend to participate in the First to the Finish Invitational. Senior Ben Lamsma (15:58) and sophomore Nathan Behr (17:50) led the way for the Mustangs. They have a couple meet-free weekends before they travel to St. Charles to participate in the Leroy Oakes Invitational on Oct. 2.

Girls’ Cross Country (Nick Vallejo)
The girls’ cross country competed in the First to Finish Invitational on Saturday. Senior Sarah Maggio scored fourth in the three miles (3A) race with a time of 17:46. The teams next meet is in the St. Charles Invite at Leroy Oakes on Oct. 2.

Boys’ Football (Nick Vallejo)
The boys’ football team played against Belleville East at Mustang Stadium on Friday. The first half the Mustangs scored no points, trailing behind Bellville 7-0. Then Metea ended the game with a very tight score of 15-14 and won their first home game in five years.

Boys’ Golf (Max Berglind)
The boys’ golf team won the Marmion Cadet Invitational with a score of 314. The team also had their annual senior night, and wrapped up with a second-place finish at the Bloomingdale Den. The Mustangs will travel to West Chicago to participate in the Wildcat Open on Monday, and then to Phillips Park on Wednesday to compete in the Aurora City Tourney.

Girls’ Golf (Grace Davidson)
The Mustangs won 168-174 over Naperville North on Tuesday. The leading ladies of the match were junior Macey Martin (39), junior Abby Terada (40), sophomore Pranvi Kakkar (44), and sophomore Meadow Rolence (45). The girls also had an away game against Neuqua on Wednesday. The team goes up against Central this Wednesday and Waubonsie on Thursday.

Girls’ Swim and Dive (Grace Davidson)
The girls placed first with 142 points against Dekalb last Thursday. The team attended the Waubonsie Relays on Saturday. The Mustangs will face Waubonsie in a meet this Thursday.

Boys’ Soccer (Grace Davidson)
The team won 3-2 against DeKalb last Tuesday. The Mustangs tied Hinsdale Central 2-2 on Wednesday. The boys went up against Lyons Township in the PepsiCo Challenge and lost 1-0. Sophomore goalie Ravi Shah made a whopping seven saves in their game against Lyons. After a tough loss against Lyons the Mustangs fell right into another hard loss against Addison Trial 3-1. The team is back at it again with a game against Waubonsie on Tuesday.

Girls’ Volleyball (Grace Cronin)
The girls continue to dominate this season as they beat Hinsdale South 25-13 in the first match and 25-15 in the second last Wednesday. Their next game is against Wheaton Warrenville South at the Wheaton Classic this Wednesday.

Girls’ Tennis (Grace Cronin)
The Mustangs lost their match against Wheaton North 4-3 last Wednesday. The girls, however, won their match against Waubonsie 4-3 last Thursday. They will continue their season as they face Oswego East this Wednesday.
