NEHS writes letters from Santa
December 9, 2022
The National English honors society (NEHS) participated in writing letters from Santa where members of NEHS wrote Christmas letters to children of staff members and families in the community. Metea staff members submitted information about their children in their family of any age.
“It is important because the students are seeing that they can bring joy to a local family,” English teacher and NEHS advisor Erin Drufke said.
During the meeting, students wrote and decorated these letters for families who have between one and four children. A letter is written to each child about the holiday just to spread some joy to the child receiving the letter.
“We write letters as if we are Santa, just as a little joy and it is a widespread thing. We get a lot of positive feedback from the teachers so it has been fun,” Drufke said.
This activity is usually run by the club’s student board members that lead the rest of the members in various activities.
“This is our sixth year as a chapter here at Metea and we have done letters from Santa every year and lots of students participate so it is a popular and amazing activity,” Drufke said.
NEHS is a club that celebrates the arts in which they do activities to learn about and use their love for all things English and language arts. Students who participate in this club are those that not only excel in that area but enjoy it as well.
“So in terms of giving, whether it is to our school community or our feeder schools, we are
currently partnering with a couple of elementary schools. We have worked with local libraries and partnered with other clubs as well,” said Drufke.
Metea senior and NEHS president Ananya Sarawati talks about the club and being president and leading this activity.
“This is the first time I am presenting in front of everyone in this meeting, and I am glad to be a part of the board and participating in letters from Santa. The sponsors and advisors are always helping out and giving advice,” Sarawati said. “Everyone is amazing to be around and the service events are fun to do. There are a bunch of different activities and specifically, the board has been supportive and we have seen growth in the program.” Sarawati said.
