Local Robotics Team Hosts LEGO Building Contest with a $100 prize

If you would like to help support STEM education for underprivileged youth as well as build a lego creation for a potential prize of $100, consider entering Rolling Thunder’s LEGO building contest “I Have The Power”.

Rolling Thunder is a ninth-year FIRST Tech Challenge robotics team based out of Aurora, Illinois. The team started with five members in 2014 and is now a four-time state qualifying team, most recently qualifying last season. Outside of competition, the team is also dedicated to making a positive impact in their community by mentoring younger teams, helping to run robotics events and fundraisers for local organizations.

This year’s fundraiser is a LEGO building contest sponsored by Stonehill Dental, “I Have the Power”. Interested participants must first buy an entry ticket on the team website and then create a unique LEGO build that showcases what inspires you or gives you the power to succeed. Once completed, all entries must be submitted here by Jan. 24, 2023, at the latest. The first-place build will receive a prize of $100, while the second-place and third-place builds will receive $50 and $25. A share of the proceeds will be donated to the APS Training Academy.

The APS Training Academy is an educational institution that focuses on providing STEAM education to children in vulnerable communities. They offer a wide variety of educational courses and host their own robotics teams. Proceeds will be used to help sponsor underprivileged children through these opportunities.

If you want to help support the APS Training Academy alongside Rolling Thunder and earn an opportunity to win up to $100, consider digging out your LEGOs and start building.
