Opening its doors after a long summer renovation, the Starbucks location near Metea has undergone a transformation in both its interior design and functions. However, after visiting the franchise branch post-reconstruction, many students are disappointed with the changes.
“Personally, I wish that the Starbucks did not renovate,” said senior Shanaya Trivedi.
Before shutting down, the local Starbucks served as a place for students to work. The assortment of tables built an atmosphere where customers could sit down to enjoy their orders or get work done. Through the renovations, management had decided to clear the interior of all seating options, stripping the store of its previous feels.
“I found the environment very peaceful,” Trivedi said. ”I now have to find an alternative location to finish my work.”
In addition to removing the tables, the Starbucks has also eliminated the counter, making it a pickup-only location which encourages use of the mobile ordering function.
“It’s only helpful to people who use the app, and sometimes it makes the process a lot harder,” senior Saanvi Gona said. “I’ve started going to different locations.”
Following its reopening, the franchise’s prices seem to have increased on certain products, with drink costs rising by approximately a dollar, depending on their size.
“Ever since Starbucks renovated, they have luxuriated the place,” Trivedi said.
While this Starbucks branch has minimized its appeal, other competitors seem to be thriving. Nearby alternatives, like Dunkin’ Donuts, located just 2 minutes away, seem to have become more popular among students.
“I am going to Dunkin’ more often,” both Gona and Trivedi admitted amidst their disappointment with the renovation.
After much anticipation, the local Starbucks has failed to satisfy students with its changes. Its transformation to a pickup-only location has eliminated its student customers. While Starbucks is still a popular location, its renovation has definitely impacted its public perception.
