The Metea boys’ basketball team hosted their first game against the East Aurora Tomcats, resulting in a decisive 70-39 victory for the Mustangs on Tuesday, Dec. 3.
The game began with Metea setting a brisk pace, quickly building a lead through efficient ball movement and sharpshooting. Their relentless defense forced turnovers and capitalized on East Aurora’s mistakes. The Mustangs controlled the boards, limiting the Tomcats to one-and-done possessions while pushing the tempo in transition. Senior Tyler Miller was near perfect when shooting from the three-point line, adding plenty of points to a Mustang-led game. By halftime, Metea had established a comfortable margin, with their discipline and focus on full display.
The Mustangs returned with the same intensity from the break, refusing to let up. Their defense continued to stifle East Aurora while the offense flowed seamlessly, finding open looks and attacking the basket with confidence. In the final quarter, the crowd erupted as the Mustangs punctuated their dominant performance with highlight-worthy plays down the stretch.
Metea dominated the stats with practically a higher number on everything. They had 35 rebounds to the Wildcats’ 30, 21 assists to 12, 19 steals to 7, and .64 on free throws to 30. This dominant performance sets the Mustangs up for their second match-up of the season on Friday, Dec. 6, 2024, against the Waubonsie Valley Warriors.
