The stage is set, the lights dim and anticipation fills the air as Metea students present their Winter Scenes showcase. Winter scenes is an opportunity for students to produce, direct, act, write, and perform their works in front of a crowd.
Winter Scenes exposes students to the nuances of theater, giving students a chance to truly learn about the work that goes on in theatre production. The program had just the right amount of cast members to do their production this year. However, since there were no understudies, everyone had to be extra cautious about being absent during practices and performing dates. Theater sponsor Ben Lundy feels that this is a great opportunity for those trying to dip their toes in the theater world, allowing them to explore and bear the responsibility for their productions.
“You really learn everything that goes into producing a show […] I think it gives you a better respect for the power of theater,” Lundy said.
This year, shows will be held on Feb 13, 14, and 15 at 7 PM, and a matinee on the 15 at 2 PM in the school’s theater Black Box.
There will be three student productions for each show: The Boy and His Poems, Slam Sensation, and The New Margo.

As shows continue to run, the students’ hard work will be on full display. Imagined by their creativity and produced by their dedication, this unique event highlights their skillful collaboration, problem-solving, the craft of bringing a story to life, their willingness to learn, and their ability to have fun with each other. Junior director Loren Jones expresses her excitement about their production finally seeing the lights and curtains on the stage, “I think it’s going to be an amazing production.”
