As the school year comes to a close and seniors prepare for graduation, a new set of emcees has been chosen to spread the legacy of spirit and pride.
The Metea emcees are responsible for bringing positivity and spirit to all Metea events, from sports games to pep assemblies. They’re always there to cheer on the Mustangs, whether it’s screaming from the stands during games or blasting music through the halls on Fridays.
This year, six new emcees were selected, making the group completely different from last year. They are all incoming seniors, many of whom have wanted to be an emcee since the start of their freshman year.
“I wanted to be an emcee since my freshman year because they all made pep assemblies so fun and exciting,” junior Sofiia Chapovenko said. “Also, it seemed like a fun way to get involved in Metea and meet new people.”
Similarly, junior Soha Panchal says that she wanted to be an emcee to connect with students and to play a bigger role in the Metea community.
“I wanted to represent Metea in a better way and connect with my peers,” Panchal said.
Junior RJ Williams also expressed that he wanted to be a more active leader in the Metea community.
“I wanted to be an emcee to really show my voice outside of just doing cheer, and I also wanted to be more involved with Metea,” Williams said. “I also wanted to put more effort into bettering our school than it already is.”
Since all of the emcees are entering their senior year, this experience is even more special.
“I’m looking forward to participating in all of the Metea events and having as much fun as possible with everyone, especially because next year will be my senior year- I have to make it as memorable as possible,” Chapovenko said.
Emcees have many opportunities to get involved at Metea, as they attend sports events, like football games, host assemblies, and are also at events like freshman orientation.
“I am looking forward to the football games and freshmen orientation,” Williams said.
Along with showing their spirit outside of school, emcees are also a part of creating school pride throughout the school day, specifically by playing music in the hall during passing period on Fridays.
“’ Hard Times’ by Paramore is definitely a vibe for Friday,” Chapovenko said. “Especially during finals week.”
Williams also has ideas in mind of what kind of songs he wants to play.
“I plan on [playing] numerous songs, but I specifically want artists like The Weekend, Drake, Doja Cat, Sza, Kendrick, Bad Bunny, etc,” Williams said.
Beyond their Friday song choices, this year’s emcees have a lot of ideas for the coming year, bringing even more passion and dedication to the role.
“I am looking forward to being involved in Metea and giving lots of ideas to the table,” Williams said.
