Repping purple tees and their parents by their side, each senior took the court to be celebrated for their time and commitment to the team throughout their years at Metea. It was an evening dedicated to celebrating the legacy and dedication of the graduating class, as well as their commitment to the program, and recognized their hard work both on and off the court. Throughout all the pictures and hugs, looking to have the perfect end to the perfect night, defeating DeKalb was the main mission in each of their heads.
On Tuesday, Oct. 7, both DeKalb and Metea took the court, looking to give their team a solid DVC win. The match started with a long back-and-forth rally, full of many diving saves from both sides. Little did the crowd know that rallies like this would be the common theme for this match. After a few strong hits by the Mustangs, highlighted by a dominant Olivia Stewart at net, they found themselves up 12-7. Meteas’ teamwork was strong, and confidence was high, and throughout the whole set. They never let DeKalb find any sort of rhythm. After a few perfectly placed spikes by the Mustangs, they were up 17-10. Although a few mistakes allowed for DeKalb to win some points back, with strong spikes at net and chemistry-filled team passing, the Mustangs marched their way to a 25-16 win in the first set.

To begin the second set, DeKalb found themselves with their first lead of the night, holding the Mustangs to three points opposed to their five. This didn’t last for long, as the Mustangs quickly made up for the mistakes that led to DeKalb’s lead, and made a quick comeback, flipping the score to 13-8 a few minutes later. This set was filled with many long and hard flight rallies from both sides, showing just how much both schools wanted the win. After strong serves by Eve Berta and a continued dominant performance by Olivia Stewart at net, the Mustangs came out victorious, 25-18.
Senior Sara Davids stated that the communication on the court was a main factor leading to Metea’s victory.
“It helped everyone know what was going on our side of the net,” Davids said. “Even when we got down, we sided out quickly because of our good communication.”
Being a senior, Davids recounts one of her favorite moments with her teammates.
“My favorite memory during the high school season was our team sleepover this year,” she said.
The crowd rushed the court to celebrate with the team, giving the seniors a storybook ending to their senior night matchup. It was a dominant, confident showing from the Mustangs. They look to continue this trend this Thursday, versus Wabousine at home. Please come out and support!
