Diane Hendrix is a math teacher who has taught in District 204 for over 30 years.
What role(s) do you play at Metea?
I coached a cheerleading team for one year, but I don’t do that anymore. I just do math. I do fun math with all the math kids. I’ve taught pretty much everything in the department, except for geometry.
What are your goals and/or plans for the future?
I’m going to retire in a few years. I want to travel some and spend time with my family. My mom and my sister live close by, so I want to spend as much time with them as I can, hang out with my husband, [and] grow stuff in the garden. Just kind of be an old lady.
What is one of your favorite memories from your time at Metea?
The first graduating class. It was really neat to go to that graduation and see that. It’s a neat thing to say you were the first class to ever graduate from a graduate school. I love all the spirit weeks that we have, Homecoming week, and different celebrations that we do, just make it fun to be here.
What’s something about you that people might not know about but is important to you?
The most important thing isn’t learning math, it’s learning how to be a good person. That’s my core teaching philosophy. It’s not about math. I hope I’m teaching math, but at the same time, I hope I’m teaching my kids to be good people.
What keeps you motivated to come to school every day?
It’s just fun. Hanging out with the kids and doing math is fun. I like doing it.
