An annual event, the Mini Mustang Halloween Bash took place on Oct. 21 in the LMC. The event is not sponsored by a specific club and is instead planned by the Freshmen Student Council, who bring together multiple club representatives to run various activities such as story time, a scavenger hunt, face painting, and other games. Sydney Neukerch, one of the main staff members involved in the running of this event, talks about who is involved in the main preparation of the Halloween Bash.
“Our freshman student council members are the ones who are planning everything else that needs to happen,” Neukerch said, “And we’ve also been very lucky to receive the support of groups like the National English Honor Society, the art club, and the National Art Honor Society.”
Kids of all ages were able to participate in the fun Halloween-themed night, with the student volunteers having just as much fun as the kids. Senior Lily Thorson talks about her thoughts on the night.
“It’s just fun to see the kids having so much fun,” Thorson said. “I feel like at this point, being in high school, there are a lot of stressful things. So seeing the pure joy of the younger kids makes me so happy.”
With interviews from Annie Zears all the way to the black cat, this video helps enlighten you on the ghostly events that occurred on the 21st.
The fun the kids have is thanks to the hard work put in by all the hardworking volunteers. Students representing certain clubs come early to assist in the decorating and set up of the event, then run stations throughout. The National English Honors Society had students running a storytime corner and reading Halloween picture books to the kids, while the National Art Honors Society had students come and do face painting. Neukerch also talks about some of the other games available at the bash.
“We have some ring toss games and some kind of bags-type games,” Neukerch said. “We’ve gotten a little bit more creative over the years.”
If interested in getting involved next year, Neukerch said to reach out to her or a member of the freshman student council. They are always looking for more volunteers to help make the event even more special in the coming years.
“It’s so much fun. [The Halloween Bash] is very low-key; it’s one night,” Thorson said. “You know, it’s so fun to see all the kids play around. Like, absolutely, if you can try to get into it, get into it. It’s fun.”
