Everyone’s favorite 90s sitcom is resurfacing, and it’s not through reruns or hours of Netflix binges. NBC entertainment has announced that a “Friends” reunion will be airing on Feb. 21, holding the cast to their one promise: they’ll be there for you.
The show is about six friends (could you guess it?), who battle with their struggles of finding true love, their passions, and destinies together. The show premiered on Sept. 22, 1994, taking the world by storm with it’s charming plotlines, witty humor, and inspirational relationships. 22 years later and it still gains views on the daily, and its series finale earned 52.5 million views, according to Zach Seemayer, writer for ET Online. The reunion will be a two hour special honoring James Burrows, the director of “Friends”, who recently just finished directing his 1,000th episode on television. Burrows hit the milestone with NBC’s comedy “Crowded”.
The draw of “Friends” is simple, it was a relatable sitcom. We all want to be grown ups living in New York City and have all of our friends at our disposal right across the hall. We all want extremely cheap living expenses that we’ve inherited from our grandmother and to be able to fall in love with our little sister’s best friend, right? Well, maybe some of that is true.

Nostalgia has a strangely powerful force over us. It reminds us of the good times when we’re feeling as if everything has gone wrong, all the Saturday mornings we used to sit down, pick up a bowl of cereal and watch a full season. Though we were never old enough to watch it while it was airing, if you’re a high school student that has gone through the entire series, it’s probable that you’ve made a connection with these complex yet admirable characters. They helped us look to the future and were a way to forget what was happening in our own life, and instead to be more concerned with Chandler’s lack of commitment. Ironically, actor Matthew Perry who plays the role of Chandler will not be attending the reunion because of his busy schedule. Though this is a void that will be hard to fill, it doesn’t diminish the love we have for the rest of the characters and if people are going to use that to boost NBC ratings, then sign me up.

Friends was an okay show, but if you’re going to write about the production of new content for old shows, why not write about the new X-Files? Fine article, regardless

NOW IM ON YOU. Friends is definitely more popular than the X-Files ever was and even IMDB rated Friends higher than the X-Files. Friends had 52.5 Million viewers in the time that it was being made. Even more people watch it now because of its accessibility by netflix and the fact that more people have TVs now. Chroma, you’re wrong.
