Senior Charles Barnes is well known throughout the halls of Metea for his high spirit and large role at games and assemblies. He is a part of many clubs, and has made a big impact in his time here at Metea.

What are all the things you are doing for the school?
I am a PE leader, I co-lead FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) along with Maggie Peterson, and I am also an MC.

How did you get so invested in all of these things?
I’ve always had a passion for Metea since I was a freshman. With us being a new school, I think it’s important for our student body to show pride at all times, because we don’t have a history like our two rival schools.

What is it like being a Senior MC?
Being a senior MC is a dream I’ve had since I was an underclassmen. I used to idolize Noah Turner, in fact. It’s an honor to be the leading representative for the BG Stampede, but it comes with a huge responsibility. I am the voice of BG Stampede, which means I have to listen to ideas for school spirit from students and staff, and it’s hard to appeal to them all. Luckily, I have four other great minds to help me make decisions.

Would you consider yourself a role model in Metea?
Yes, but at the same time I don’t want people to think I’m the model student or person, but I do want the classes below me to understand that it’s okay to be yourself in high school. Whether or not people accept that person, you’re the only person looking back at you in the mirror every morning and night.

What do you think school spirit can do for our school?
School spirit can bring our students closer together. You can’t be ‘too cool for school’ at Metea. Our principals, Dr. Echols and Mrs. Maloney, play a huge role in that, because if they can walk around in hot dog suits and a waffle, you can definitely spend one day dressing in your class theme whether it’s cool or not. It’s all about the effort, kids.

What are your other hobbies?
I play basketball at the YMCA, I binge watch Grey’s Anatomy and Law & Order SVU, and I work at Fire it Up TacoFusion!
