The girls’ varsity water polo team ended its regular season this past Wednesday and Friday. The team participated in the sectionals tournament held at Neuqua Valley.

“Our team, especially our junior class, has been playing together on JV or varsity since freshman year which has allowed us to build skills and gain experience together rather than having a big fall off in skill from our starters to our bench,” junior Brooke Montemayor said.

Wednesday was the first Sectionals game for the varsity team. As a result, the girls won 13-7 against rival Neuqua Valley. On Friday, the girls’ played their next game in the tournament against Naperville North. Although this match saw a 5-8 loss, the team was still pleased with its work ethic and consistent determination.

“I have never been a part of a team with a bond this strong and loyal. The water polo team is really special and in general, it was an amazing experience to be able to play in Sectionals this year,” junior Shealyn Streder said.

The team kept up a strong fight in both sectionals games as well as maintaining remarkable offense and defense against the two schools.

“My favorite part is definitely the bond and connection you make with your team. We get so close and make so many memories together,” junior Anna Scovill said.

Along with the two well played games in the sectionals tournament, the girls’ shared a closer bond, leading to an impressive 26-5 record.
“I would say that we are happy with the impressive wins we had and not going down without a fight against the only two teams we lost to: Naperville North and Naperville Central,” Montemayor added.
