Weekly Sports Update 1/8 – 1/16

Girls’ Basketball (Kellie Foy)

The girls lost to Lake Park on Tuesday, losing 47-53. The girls also lost to Neuqua Valley on Saturday afternoon. The team plays at home against Naperville Central on Thursday and at home on Saturday against Wheaton North.

Boys’ Basketball (Kellie Foy)

The JV team won to Lake Park this week, winning 49-44. The varsity team lost to Wheaton Warrenville South on Thursday, losing 50-26. On Tuesday, the boys beat Glenbard West, winning 58-46. The boys play at Glenbard North on Friday night.

Special Olympics (Kellie Foy)

The basketball team lost their game on Wednesday and has the Pack the Stands event on Jan. 24 at home.

Dance (Kellie Foy)

The dance team ended the DuPage Valley Conference on Thursday with a score of 75 points.

Girls’ Gymnastics (Myra Bajwa)

The gymnastics team competed against Lake Park and Glenbard North on Wednesday and at the Neuqua invite on Saturday. This week, the team faces off against Naperville Central on Thursday at Neuqua.

Bowling (Myra Bajwa)

The bowling team fell to Romeoville on Monday and Lake Park on Tuesday. The team participated in the Strike Out Cancer event held at Fox Bowl with Neuqua, Waubonsie, and Naperville North. The girls team also competed at the Fenton-Fred Green invite on Saturday and the boys competed at IHSA Regionals. Ian Ridgway and Chris Mickolayck advanced to Sectionals, placing 8th and 25th overall.

Hockey (Myra Bajwa)

Both teams fell against Wheaton West on Saturday. Varsity also lost to Hinsdale Central on Sunday, but fought hard with two straight goals in the second. JV beat Hinsdale, winning 5-3. Varsity plays Lake Park and Maine next weekend.

Wrestling (Tyler Burleyson)

At its Senior Night dual meet, the wrestling team came away with a net loss but several key victories, including all three seniors competing. Freshman Balin Hoag won his match as well. On Monday, the wrestlers joined several other teams and clubs for the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. Next week, the team travels to Lake Park for the DuPage Valley Conference junior varsity tournament on Saturday.

Boys’ Swim and Dive (Tyler Burleyson)

The Mustangs competed at the Titan Relays meet last Saturday. Overall the team took fourth at the meet, with several standout individual and relay performances. Junior Sam Kastan was a finalist in the 50 free skins, and seniors Ben Forbes and Griffin Despot won the cookie tray in the halftime challenge. Relays came home with some victories as well. Junior Pedro Cavour and seniors Michael Chan, Griffin Despot, and Janssen Gamilla took fourth in the 400 medley relay, and a second place 200 medley relay featured sophomores Brayden Shatto, Alex Lafferty, Austin Martinson, and freshman Jeddrick Gamilla.
