Weekly Sports Update: Spring Break

Girls’ Badminton (Tyler Burleyson)

The team was defeated in away matches against Neuqua and Naperville North on the Tuesday and Thursday before spring break. The team completed two tournaments while on break, placing second at Hinsdale Central and third at Lockport.

 

Boys’ Tennis (Tyler Burleyson)

The team plays its first match of the season at St. Charles North on Tuesday.

 

Girls’ Soccer (Tyler Burleyson)

The past two weeks have been busy and successful for the girls’ soccer team. The girls’ record in conference play stands at 3-0 after a 2-1 win against Deerfield that secured them the title in the Wheaton North Kickoff Tournament. The team competed in St. Louis over spring break, losing a match against Incarnate World Academy, losing 0-2 and winning over Marquette the next day, winning 4-0.

 

Boys’ Track (Tyler Burleyson)

The 4×800 relay won the IL Top Times meet, breaking their own school record in the process. The 4×200 team took eighth at the same meet.

 

Baseball (Myra Bajwa)

Varsity won its season opener against Glenbard South on March 22, winning 11-1. The team lost against West Aurora on March 23, losing 2-3. The varsity team also played against Bartlett on March 26, Plainfield East on March 28 and Romeoville on March 29.

 

Softball (Myra Bajwa)

Varsity lost to Joliet West on March 19, losing 3-7. The team also lost against Oswego East on March 22, losing 5-16. The team beat Chicago West on March 23, winning 13-0 and lost to Plainfield North with a score of 1-6 on March 26. Varsity also lost against Plainfield Central on March 28 after 11 innings, losing 3-4. JV also had a busy schedule, losing to Joliet West with a score of 2-4 and losing against Oswego East, losing 1-12. Both teams will play against Joliet Catholic on Wednesday, Yorkville on Friday, and Minooka on Saturday.

 

Girls’ Track (Myra Bajwa)

Girls’ track had its first outdoor meet at Glenbard North on March 21. Melody Tran ran a personal best in the 1600-meter run and Isabel Flores, Paige Friedlander and Leslie Martinez also ran their personal bests in the 800-meter run. The team will compete at Naperville Central on April 4.

 

Ultimate Frisbee (Myra Bajwa)

The ultimate frisbee team starts practice on Tuesday and has its first league games on Wednesday.

 

Hockey (Myra Bajwa)

The hockey team finished its season on March 24, losing against the Buffalo Grove, Hershey, and Wheeling team at the United Center, losing 2-7.

 

Girls’ Lacrosse (Kellie Foy)

The JV team beat Chicago Heights Marian on March 20, winning 7-2. Varsity also beat Chicago Heights Marian, winning 15-3. Wheaton cancelled its game against the co-op team due to the cold. JV beat Lincoln Way Central on March 22, winning 7-4. Varsity beat Lincoln Way Central as well, winning 8-7. Both teams remain undefeated. The girls play at Carl Sandburg on Tuesday and at Palatine on Wednesday.

Boys’ Volleyball (Kellie Foy)

The varsity team lost to Downers North in two sets. The boys played at the Joliet West tournament at the beginning of spring break. They went onto the championship with wins over JCA, Oswego East, Edwardsville and Riverside Brookfield. The team finished the tournament in second place, going 4-1 with a loss against Stevenson in two sets. The JV won the silver bracket championship at the Metea Valley Invite. The varsity team participated in the annual Tiger Classic at Wheaton Warrenville South over the weekend. The boys play at Geneva on Wednesday, at St. Charles East on Thursday, and at the Warren Tournament on Friday and Saturday.

 

Boys’ Water Polo (Kellie Foy)

The varsity team beat Waubonsie on March 20 followed by a great game against Sandburg on March 21. Both levels beat Homewood-Flossmoor on March 28. The boys play at St. Charles North on Wednesday and at the Niles Varsity Tournament at Niles North on Friday and Saturday.

 

Girls’ Water Polo (Kellie Foy)

Varsity beat Waubonsie on March 20, winning 13-4. JV went into double overtime followed by a sudden death leading to a victory of Sandburg on March 21, winning 11-10. The girls play at home against St. Charles North on Wednesday and at the Fremd Varsity Tournament on Friday and Saturday.

 

Rugby (Connor Smith)

The Chiefs’ boys held their first Division 3 match last Thursday with a successful victory over the Rockford Ravens at home in Naperville.

 

Special Olympics (Connor Smith)

Special Olympics was on break last week and will begin Track and Field practices this week.

 

Boys’ Lacrosse (Connor Smith)

Boys’ lacrosse was on break last week but will resume practicing this week.
