Weekly Sports Update 4/15-4/21

This week, there was a national signing day. On behalf of the Metea Valley athletic department, we would like to recognize the following student-athletes:

Boys’ Baseball (Nate Burleyson)

The varsity team beat Naperville North 12-4 on Tuesday and beat Michigan City 16-4 on Friday. They play at Neuqua on Tuesday as well as a three-game series against Waubonsie on Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

Softball (Nate Burleyson)

The varsity softball team played two games last week, beating Hinsdale Central and losing to Naperville Central. They play Neuqua, Waubonsie, Naperville North, and Naperville Central this week.

Boys Track and Field (Madison McCalley)

Last week, the Mustangs had a meet at the Red Grange Invite at Wheaton Warrenville South. 4×100 took first place with a season-best of 43.04. Senior Pryce Giwa-Osagie cleared six feet, five inches in high jump and took first place. In the long jump, senior Nikola Maric placed second. Senior Temi Osobamiro placed second in the 100 meter. Junior Virgil Steward placed first in the 100 meter. Sophomore Eden Sweeney placed 4th in the 100 meter. In the 200 meter, sophomore Eden Sweeney placed first and senior Nikola Maric placed second. Junior John Burns placed 4th in the 400 meter, senior Matthew Corso placed 5th, and senior Michael Varzino placed 6th in the 400 meter. Senior Justin Fichte placed 4th in the 800 meter. Senior Dheeraj Peddinti placed second in the 110 meter hurdles. Sophomore Nathan St. Yves, junior Sricharan Sanakkayala, and freshman Jalen Johnson placed 4th in the 300 meter hurdles. 4×200 took third place. Their next meet is tomorrow at Waubonsie.

Girls Track and Field (Madison McCalley)

The lady Mustangs ran against Waubonsie on Monday and Neuqua on Thursday. Their next meet is tomorrow at Naperville North.

Boys’ Water Polo (Nate Burleyson)

The varsity team played Waubonsie Valley last Tuesday, winning 9-7. They also hosted a tournament over the weekend. At the tournament, they lost to Neuqua 15-5, and beat Maine South 10-2 and Bradly 12-1.

Girls Water Polo (Madison McCalley)

This past week, the lady Mustangs played against Waubonsie on Tuesday. The Mustangs won against Waubonsie. The Mustangs hosted the varsity co-ed tournament over the weekend. The girls won against Neuqua, Maine South, and BBCHS. Their next game is this Thursday at Hinsdale Central.

Girls’ Badminton (Leland Pan)

Varsity is currently 6-5 on the season, 1-1 in the Dupage Valley Conference. The Mustangs played Naperville North on Wednesday and won  10-5. The following day they were against Neuqua Valley; the girls lost 2-13. On Saturday, they played Hinsdale South. The team placed 3rd overall. First doubles placed 1st, and second doubles placed 2nd. First singles won first place. They have senior night this Tuesday against Waubonsie Valley at 4:30 pm.

Girls’ Lacrosse (Leland Pan)

The Mustangs played against Fremd on Tuesday and won 17-6.  They continued their week playing against Neuqua Valley last Wednesday. The girls fell short to Neuqua 6-20. They have an away game against St. Francis at 6:00 pm.

Girls’ Soccer (Leland Pan)

The girls fell short to Waubonsie Valley 0-1 last Tuesday. On Saturday they played against Batavia and won 1-0. Their home game will be today against Minooka at 4 pm.

Boys’ Tennis (Leland Pan)

The Mustangs played against Lincoln-Way East last Monday. They played Wheaton Warrenville South and won 6-4. Their upcoming match will be a rescheduled play due to inclement weather last Thursday. They play an away match against Naperville North at 4:30  pm.

Boys’ Volleyball (Leland Pan)

The boys hosted Naperville Central last Tuesday, they lost 1-2. The Mustangs played Wheaton North on Thursday and ended with a  three-set-loss. Their home game will be today against Willowbrook at 6 pm.

Ultimate Frisbee (Leland Pan)

The boys played against Waubonsie Valley and St. Charles East last week. They won both games; Waubonsie Valley 11-4 and St. Charles East 9-3. The Mustangs play Naperville North and Downers Grove South this week.
