As a first-generation American, I’ve always had the experience of two different worlds. The culture of my mother’s native country and the culture that surrounds me today in the United States. In schools, we are taught that everyone is equal and deserves to be treated equally. The values of Martin Luther King Jr., Elie Wiesel, Malala, and Ruth Bader Ginsburg. The America I was taught about in schools at a young age slightly differed from the way I was seen and the way people like me were seen.
