Ariana Grande has been a pop icon for years. Her career jump-started with her role as Cat Valentine on “Victorious.” The Nickelodeon show was about teens attending a performing arts school where her character pursues singing. After the show, and the spin-off show, “Sam & Cat,” Grande took a step back from acting to continue her career in the music industry. She is best known for her catchy pop songs about love, and breakups. Yet, some of her best songs are not the mainstream ones on the radio. Here is a list of ten underrated songs from Grande herself.

  1. “The Way” by Ariana Grande, Mac Miller

As one of Grande’s earliest releases, this song is about how love can make us feel. It captures the ways people can influence our feelings about one another. Mac Miller’s addition to the song ties into the mix of pop and rap. Their two voices capture both sides of how happy that connection with one another makes us feel.

Favorite lyric: “I don’t wanna hide the way I feel when you’re next to me.”

       2. “Love Me Harder” by Ariana Grande, The Weeknd

The music video to this song was something I was not a fan of, but the song itself is enjoyable to listen to. The song is about how loving someone might take work for it to last. Loving someone harder means that you need to put extra effort into it.

Favorite lyric: “Cause if you want to keep me. You gotta, gotta, gotta, gotta, Got to love me harder.”

       3. “Greedy”

Greed is often associated with money, but this song talks about being greedy for love. Grande sings this song about wanting to have a relationship with someone because they want it. The song conveys how there is nothing that is stopping a relationship from forming, so why not go after it.

Favorite lyric: “Baby, you got lucky cause you’re rocking with the best. And I’m greedy.”

       4. “Bad Decisions”

When it comes to love, mistakes are bound to happen. With love, one may make some bad decisions along the way, but sometimes those mistakes are good, which is what this song expresses. The repetition of “we” in the song connects to the idea of how love is not always perfect. Love can be messy, which is why bad decisions might be made along the way.

Favorite lyric: “I been doing stupid things, wilder than I’ve ever been.”

       5. “goodnight n go”

When relationships become more serious, one of the further steps into it is staying the night.  “goodnight n go” captures that feeling of wanting to sleep the night away with your lover instead of them leaving. Unlike Grande’s other songs, this one is less pop-like and sounds gentle and quiet.

Favorite lyric: “Oh, why’d you have to be so cute? It’s impossible to ignore you, ah.”

       6. “bloodline”

Different from her songs about relationships, this one is about hookup culture. The song is about not wanting a serious relationship. Grande released this song in her album after her breakup with Pete Davidson, who she was engaged with, which is why the lyric below relates so closely to Grande.

Favorite lyric: “I ain’t lookin’ for my one true love. Yeah, that ship sailed away”

       7. “In My Head”

This song is unique because it starts with a monologue to the song. It helps prompt the song to understand the lyrics because it is a break-up song. The songs’ meaning is about how a relationship did not work out because all the feelings were in their head and not the heart. This song relates to how sometimes one can be too caught up in their head by overthinking their feelings and can lose sight of reality.

Favorite lyric: “But it was all in my head. It was all in my head (Skrrt, skrrt).”

       8. “main thing”

Ariana Grande’s album “Positions” is the opposite of her usual break-up songs. Almost a year ago, Grande got married, which had fans thrilled because her husband Dalton Gomez is just a regular guy compared to Grande’s exes. This song conveys how the person you love is one of the main things in your life.

Favorite lyric: “You, you might be the main thing, baby (main thing, baby).”

       9.” just like magic”

Unlike Grande’s songs about loving someone else, this one is about loving yourself and manifesting. It is the perfect song to sing in the shower because of the positive message it spreads of getting everything one wants. Grande has had and continues to have a lot of successes through her music, her role on the musical competition show, “The Voice,” and her recent makeup line r.e.m beauty.

Favorite lyric: “Manifest it (yeah), I finessed it (I finessed it). Take my pen and write some love letters to heaven.”

        10. “worst behavior”

This song is short but sweet. The beat of the song is unique compared to Grande’s other songs. The song itself talks about how one being on their worst behavior is not always a bad thing when it comes to love. Sometimes having fun means being a little troublemaker.

Favorite lyric: “No phone, no pics, no postin’ us. This love just ain’t disposable.”
