The new trendy Owala Water bottle with a built in straw has replaced the Hydro flask.

After buying an Owala water bottle, it quickly became my favorite. It had fun colors and was easy to quickly sip out of. But, when I embarrassingly had to get up in the middle of my history class to grab the button that flew off, I started to become doubtful about the quality.

Water bottle trends have been a thing for a while. Last school year, the Stanley water bottles were popular. And before the Stanley, there was Hydroflask, Yeti, and many more. But trends are not always something that you should follow.

The Owala water bottles have become trendy this year due to their variety in sizes, fun color combinations and their quality. The company offers many diverse types of water bottles. Such as a Tumbler, FreeSip Twist, and a regular FreeSip water bottle, which are all available to customers to purchase in different colors or sizes.

“I like the colors,” senior Sydney Eakin said. “I wanted something the right size to fit in my car holder.”

However, buying something simply because it is trending, is not the best plan of action. The Owala water bottle, that I bought only a month ago, has had some disappointing problems. When I open the lid to the Owala bottle I got only a month ago, the button often gets stuck or flys off completely. And I am not the only one who has had problems.

“The straw doesn’t work,” Eakin said. “It falls out everytime I drink out of it.”

Water bottles are a great thing to invest in. They are convenient, help you reduce plastic waste and they help keep you hydrated. Drinking plenty of water is crucial for a human’s health. But choosing what water bottle you should invest in is important. When you buy a water bottle, you want it to be of good quality, so it’s able to be used for a long time.

There are lots of options to choose from when buying a water bottle. But do not buy a water bottle just because it is trending. Trends can not always be trusted and it is key to do some research before spending your money.
