In a world where love is fast-tracked and here today but gone tomorrow, Enhypen’s “Romance: Untold” slows things down. It is an album that feels like a quiet conversation, where emotions run deep and time stands still. Amongst the longing and the soft ache, it asks if a love story can ever be untold and if it’s just another tale we’re all trying to figure out.
In Enhypen’s newest release, “Daydream”’s concept completely differs from the original tracks of Romance: Untold. With Heesung’s bomber jacket, Ni-ki’s baseball cap with a scarf underneath, and Jay’s blinged tooth gems, the style is more hip-hop-centered. This was an unexpected switch from their pink attire in their XO concept from when Romance: Untold was first released–but honestly, we love it.
When the teaser first originally came out for this song, it was very Chase-Atlantic coded. We liked the repeating theme of “heat,” which refers to the song “Brought The Heat Back” from when “Romance: Untold” was originally released. The office attire on top of the catchy choreography really seals the deal, and they’re even dancing with their hands in their pockets.
“Moonstruck” is hands down the best song on this playlist. When the teaser for this song first came out, we instantly knew that the choreography, style, and performance of this song were going to be absolutely breathtaking. Enhypen mixed pop with R&B. Playing with the idea of being drawn into someone’s gravitational pull, the lyrics themselves are pretty intriguing. They compare their attraction towards someone to the way the moon pulls at the tides to describe the feeling of being overwhelmed by someone–almost as if you’re losing control, which makes the whole ‘’moonstruck’’ idea so perfect. If a song had to be played at your future wedding, it should probably be this one.
When you first hit play when listening to “XO,” the beginning sounds so magical. It never fails to send chills down my spine. Every time we listen to this song, we wish we could listen to it for the first time. The concept of the music video is light and centered around love. At times, the mood turns dark and cold. In our opinion, this reflects the song’s meaning of confession. They say “Don’t say no” or “Say yes” because they confess to the girl they love. The choreography is very clever. With their hands, they make an “X” with their fingers and then open their hands to make an “O.” Now, who could have thought of that?
“Your Eyes Only” is personally one of our favorites from Romance: Untold. It’s a cutesy song with a catchy tune. However, the meaning is even cuter. The lyrics talk about how they are comfortable enough to be themselves with their partner and how their connection is strong. Heeseung and Jungwon’s pre-chorus blows our socks off every time we listen to it. The rhythm is so similar, but their voices and the way they articulate the syllables are so unique from one another that they still both manage to be amazing.
Our initial thoughts on “Brought The Heat Back” weren’t the most positive. I didn’t think it was the type of song that people would be able to listen to and enjoy. But now, we’re in shock. Ever since the music video came out, we’ve been playing this song on repeat. This B-side is top tier in our opinion. From the choreography to the adlibs, everything is outstanding. The power in their vocals along with their strong dancing is more than impressive. Jay and Sunghoon’s vocals combined during the bridge make us stop in our tracks from how good they sound together.
“Highway 1009” is a song written and produced by the members of their fans, Engene. This was their first song dedicated to Engene. The lyrics go on about how Engene and Enhypen will stay side by side through everything forever. We enjoyed listening to their vocals in this song because it’s one of those songs where you can just hear the emotion in their voice. Heeseung’s vocals move us whenever we hear them in this song in particular. Knowing he mainly worked to produce this song for Engine, you can kind of tell how much emotion he has from the way he sings his lines.
